Near-Synchronous recovery builds on Async snapshots. With NearSync, Nutanix supports Lightweight Snapshots (LWS) based on OpLog markers, operating on SSDs. LWS execution time is constant (O(1)), ensuring minimal user IO impact. This architecture makes LWS highly scalable and distributed. These snapshots are continuously replicated to the remote site, with intermediate snapshots created hourly (retained for 6 hours) and daily snapshots retained for 5 days. Async snapshots serve as checkpoints to enhance RTO. As of AOS 5.17, Nutanix supports RPO as low as 20 seconds.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

With Synchronous disaster recovery, we can achieve a zero RPO at the VM granularity level. Synchronous replication is supported between sites under 5 ms latency. In order to achieve continuous availability of applications and zero data loss, a secondary copy of all data including VM data, VM metadata, and Protection Policies applied to VMs is maintained across two clusters. This ensures that there is no data loss in case of site failure.
